Excalibur Christian School
Excalibur
Christian School is an Alabama non-profit corporation founded in 2002 by
the members of Christian Community, a local church congregation meeting
in Madison, Alabama. It is governed by a board of trustees consisting of
both church members and non-church members. Day-to-operations of the school
are under the supervision of a Superintendent/Administrator appointed by
the board. Its stated purpose is
"to
create a wholesome and loving environment where homeschool families learn
and demonstrate the character of Jesus Christ, grow in godly wisdom, assimilate
unchanging truth, and acquire skills for successful living."
It
is open to any family who shares this purpose and desires to join with us
in building and maintaining an atmosphere of love and respect for one another.
The name, Excalibur, comes
from the King Arthur legends and was the name of his sword. Though the Arthurian
legends vary in their details, most of us remember how Arthur withdrew a sword
from a rock or anvil, thus legitimizing himself as the rightful king.
According to some of the
legends, the rock that held the sword represented Christianity. The sword itself
stood for justice. By taking the sword, Arthur assumed the mantle of responsibility
for providing justice for his people.
No one knows for sure if
Arthur really existed. But there is One who does exist and who was and is the only
rightful King. He alone earned the right to wield the Sword of Justice. By suffering
its mortal sting on a Roman cross, He endured, in our place, the just punishment
due us for rebellion against the Creator and Ruler of the universe.
For those who have been
called by Him, there is no fear of that sword. God's mercy has been extended
because God's justice was satisfied in Him, i.e. in Jesus Christ.

They have five grown children and six grandchildren.
Excalibur's philosophy of education
EXCALIBUR is a ministry
of Christian Community and is an integral part of the vision and mission of
the church. Any family that desires to be a part of the EXCALIBUR home school
covering understands and agrees to the following philosophy:
- Education is not an
end in itself. Without character, knowledge produces pride. Scripture says,
"It is senseless to pay tuition to educate a rebel who has no heart for
truth."(Proverbs 17:16 NLT). Our mission is to encourage families to
develop virtue (character), thereby giving them a foundation for understanding
truth.
- EXCALIBUR is a "family
of families". As such, good relationships are crucial, and we must be
courteous and respectful toward each member. We desire, with the Apostle Paul,
that each individual “be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor
one another above yourselves” (Romans 12:10 NIV).
Our freedom in Christ is not a license to do as we please. It is the liberty
to serve and support each other without putting stumbling blocks in another’s
path through our music selections, dress or conduct. Because what we may approve of in private may be offensive to others, we must be on our guard to walk before others with respect and honor at all times.
- Many worthy projects
have failed through lack of leadership. Our goal is to provide that leadership
in a way that provides freedom. We do not intend to tell you how to educate
your children, but we do intend to provide an environment that makes you the
most effective. If an individual or family begins to intrude on that environment
in a negative way, we reserve the right to offer counsel in hope of restoring
the peace and harmony to the larger school family, or helping them find an
alternative to EXCALIBUR.
- We believe there is a God-given order for the home and the nation. Our children and our nation can only thrive when that order is followed. Many of the problems that hinder the success of our children starts in our own homes. Our mission is to restore families, to turn the hearts of fathers toward their children and the hearts of the children to their parents. Only then will our hope of raising up the next generation to be strong, wise, and prosperous by fulfilled.
